In general, cruise line injuries are governed by federal admiralty and maritime law. If you are injured aboard a vessel in navigation, the law of admiralty and the general maritime law, which is judge-made law that exists in federal decisions, applies to your injuries. It would be a mistake in judgment to believe that you can use all of the land-based concepts if you are injured aboard a vessel. The admiralty and maritime law is quite specialized. The cruise lines know this, and while there is an avenue for recovery on a vessel, just as there is on land, the specifics of bringing any claim are often technical and generally require some counsel.
