Cruise ship employees have a different status than a passenger. Cruise line employees are typically covered under the Federal Jones Act, under the doctrine of seaworthiness and under the maritime doctrine of maintenance and cure. In short, if a cruise line employee can prove that the employer was negligent or responsible in whole or in part for the injury, typically, the cruise line as the employer and the over of the vessel is responsible for those injuries.
