I would say medical malpractice is a complex, time consuming and expensive field. People who go without an attorney are called pro se litigants which means they are acting for themselves. In the arena of medical malpractice and medical negligence claims the pro se litigants are usually just grist for the mill. I can’t see being able to competently handle a medical malpractice case on your own without an experienced attorney. A lot of attorneys, who are out there and have general credentials to handle personal injury and wrongful death cases, know nothing about the medical malpractice law. We have a pre-suit requirement in medical malpractice cases. We have stringent requirements for the types of experts that you have to hire. I would say that attempting to proceed pro se in a medical malpractice action is tap dancing in a mine field.
